I bumped into this article from the BBC about underground mountains

Why are there mountains inside Earth?

The deep Earth contains vast mountain ranges with peaks up to four times the height of Everest. But no one knows why.

The gist is that there are underground radar images of huge "mountain ranges" underground at the interface between the various layers of the Earth's crust---hollow spaces, so effectively massive caverns?

I didn't get the impression that there were hollow spaces. I think these are geologically mountain formations, but they are covered by rock.

I'm no expert (unless you count a summer job spent picking lines on seismic data), but that's what it sounded like to me.

Now if these mountains were upside-down, jutting "up" into the Earth's hollow core, that would be something.

Imagine if they protruded from an enormous sphere within a hollow core, which spun in the opposite direction.
