I haven’t seen anything but the above meme, but I did enjoy the original Shogun series and novel.
I’ve heard that the new one is significantly shorter than the original series, but is that simply because the show only released a single season thus far, or is it a one-off that’s done now (and presumably compressed the storyline)?

It was a one-off and is now done. I never saw the original, but I remember when it aired ("birth of the TV mini-series!").
I was good, but not terribly action-packed---more political. Still, anything that isn't hackneyed or "woke Hollywood" feels refreshing to me at this point. The exec producer was Japanese.
